Keeping the Family Together!

As Tamithia’s unemployment checks ran out and her desperate search for a new job came up empty, she clung to one fact: no matter what happened, she and her boys would not have to sleep on the streets.

Tears fill her eyes as she admits, “It’s really hard being here because of the economy,” unable to provide for her boys.  However, she’s deeply grateful for the care your help provides and for the impact that care has had on her son’s lives.

While her 3 year old is mainly happy to be with mommy, her 11 year old is learning significant life lessons.  “He had ADHD,” Tamithia explains, “and here he’s learned patience and that you can’t always have your own way.  He’s never had that before.  He’s also been learning a lot of scripture, and we’ve been talking quite a bit about God.  He wants his own Bible.”

Because you gave them a safe place to live, Tamithia’s sons can see their mom working hard to overcome the obstacles in her way, growing closer to God, and focused on building the best future she can for them.  Thank you for intervening in their young lives as well as their mom’s, filling he whole family with hope!

Blessing in Disquise!

At 61 Dan Sr. lost his job and couldn’t find another due to a variety of health problems.  When his savings ran out and he was faced with sleeping in his pickup, he thought of Muskegon Rescue Mission-the place where his son was finding so much hope.

In our May issue of Harbor Light, we told you about Dan Jr. and how unemployment and homelessness gave him an opportunity for a completely fresh start, thanks to you.  Dan Sr. wondered if he enrolled too, could the finally reconnect?  The answer, praise God, is yes!

“My biggest challenge is doing all the homework,” Dan Sr. explains.  “I haven’t sat in a classroom since high school.  I’m starting all over again, pushing a pencil.”  But Dan Jr. is right there cheering him on.  “We encourage each other to do the homework,” Dan Sr. says.

Looking ahead, Dan Sr. is praying for better health so he can support himself again.   And his restored relationship with his son gives him hope that someday, they will also be reunited with his two daughters.  For right now, “My son and I try to spend quite a bit of time together here,” strengthening their new bond.

Your support helps return fathers and mothers, sons and daughters to their families whole and health again, through our comprehensive life-transformation programs.
